Patients arriving by ambulance to the Emergency Department; vital signs and 30 day mortality
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Vital signs outside the normal range on arrival to an emergency department are related to a poor prognostic outcome. However, the knowledge of the prognostic value of vital signs measured in the ambulance is scarce. The aim of the study was to describe vital signs measured in the ambulance (saturation, systolic blood pressure, pulse, respiratory frequency and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)) and their relation to 30 day mortality for patients arriving by ambulance to the Odense University Hospital (OUH) emergency department.

The association between vital signs and mortality in a retrospective cohort study of an unselected emergency department population
BACKGROUND Vital signs are widely used in emergency departments. Previous studies on the association between vital signs and mortality in emergency departments have been restricted to selected patient populations. We aimed to study the association of vital signs and age with 1-day mortality in patients visiting the emergency department. METHODS This retrospective cohort included patients visi...
متن کاملArrival by ambulance explains variation in mortality by time of admission: retrospective study of admissions to hospital following emergency department attendance in England
BACKGROUND Studies finding higher mortality rates for patients admitted to hospital at weekends rely on routine administrative data to adjust for risk of death, but these data may not adequately capture severity of illness. We examined how rates of patient arrival at accident and emergency (A&E) departments by ambulance-a marker of illness severity-were associated with in-hospital mortality by ...

BACKGROUND In many Emergency Department (ED) triage scoring systems, vital signs are not included as an assessment parameter. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the validity of a new protocol for Emergency Medicine in a large cohort of patients referred to in-hospital care. METHODS From January 1 to June 30, 2006, 22,934 patients were admitted to the ED at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Of those, 869...

OBJECTIVE To describe and compare characteristics and outcomes of patients who arrive by ambulance to the ED. We aimed to (i) compare patients with a delayed ambulance offload time (AOT) >30 min with those who were not delayed; and (ii) identify predictors of an ED length of stay (LOS) of >4 h for ambulance-arriving patients. METHODS A retrospective, multi-site cohort study was undertaken in ...

SETTING Clinical trial sites in North America. PARTICIPANTS 1068 patients enrolled in the Acute Studies of Nesiritide in Decompensated Heart Failure (ASCEND-HF) trial. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES The association between amb...
